Thank you for your interest in the UU Partner Church Council pilgrimage service. We have more than 10 years of experience working with groups of 4-40 to provide all of their logistical support when traveling through Eastern & Central Europe. For congregational groups of 4 or more we will work with you to customize an itinerary based on your time frame, your group's interests, and your cities of arrival and departure. Costs begin at $100/person/day for many of your destinations in Romania and a bit more for Hungary and the Czech Republic. This includes accommodations, ground transportation, most meals, guides, interpreters and entry fees to programmed tourist sites. Even if you do not meet our minimum group size or wish to travel more independently please contact us at the email address below. We also work with individuals, couples & family groups to arrange car/driver services, airport pick-ups, guides/interpreters, and other ala carte services as needed.

If you want to begin planning your own customized pilgrimage here is what we would need to get started. If you are thinking of 2007 we should start now.

  1. When do you want to travel? Our season typically begins with Easter and ends in mid-November. The summer months of July and August are our busiest times and we have limited availability for 2007. If you are thinking of these months please let me know asap jdaleuupcc@yahoo.com .
  2. How much time are you willing to devote to the trip? A typical pilgrimage is 10-14 days.
  3. What are your arrival and departure cities? Most people fly into either Budapest or Bucharest. Many arrive in one of these cities and depart from the other so as not to retrace their steps. We have also picked up and dropped off groups in Vienna and Prague. If your time is limited you may wish to fly directly to Transylvania. There is service to both Kolozsvar/Cluj and Marosvasarhely/TG-Mures from Budapest and a number of other European cities. This might also be colored by where your partner village is located.
  4. How much time do you want to spend with your partners? If this is a first visit 3-4 days is about right. You would want to make certain that your stay includes a Sunday worship service. If this is a repeat visit and/or you have a specific project you wish to complete that may require some additional days.
  5. Finally – what do you hope to accomplish? If this is a first time visit then your objective might simply be to get to know your partners better. If your partnership is more mature then your goals will likely be more ambitious.

We stand ready to assist you throughout the planning process. Typically we work initially toward a sample itinerary complete with dates and costs that you can use as a recruiting tool within your congregation. We can also arrange for speakers to visit your congregation to help build interest in your pilgrimage and to answer the questions of your prospective travelers. Finally we will prepare a customized registration form that you can use to sign –up your travelers. Feel free to contact us with your questions, comments, or concerns at jdaleuupcc@yahoo.com . We look forward to working with you.
