title: HOW
TO MAKE TRANSYLVANIAN BOXES AND LUMINARIA
author: from Church of
the Larger Fellowship’s children’s magazine,
uu&Me (Dec.1999)
on Transylvanian Unitarians, and its Transylvanian Heritage craft project:
making Transylvanian boxes and luminaria
file length and location: PDF file 1.0 MB, MS Word file 1.3 MB (Note the large file size)
purpose: a craft activity
for ages/grades: for ages 7-70+
# of sessions: ideally to be started one time and finished the next, because it is a lot to accomplish in one Sunday School session.
possible uses: Note: this craft activity has been included in other items on the PCC RE Curriculum GRID (Travel in Time and St. Louis Partner Church Sunday lessons). One Sunday School class linked many of these decorated (in red) squares to hang around their pulpit for Partner Church Sunday—transforming it temporarily into a Transylvanian Unitarian pulpit. Others reuse the luminaria along the walkway to the church door and up the stairs each time there is an evening partner church gathering.
cautions: This is a huge file to download—best to put it on a separate disk.
where this has been used: in many places
contact person if you want to learn more: See the careful directions and materials list in the two extra sessions Ruth Gibson has written for partner churches using “Travel in Time.”
